New Offering :: Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Back in September ‘24 I earned certification for Lymphatic Drainage Massage and I’m finally ready to share my newly acquired skills with you! In this blog post I’ll explain some of the basics about your lymphatic system and the benefits of lymphatic drainage massage. At the end you’ll find links to schedule your LDM session.
Your lymphatic fluids are the vehicle through which your body disposes of toxins, waste and damaged cells. The lymph vessels don’t pump these fluids the way your circulatory system pumps your blood. In order for the lymph fluids to move, the vessels require manual manipulation. Usually this happens through your daily movements and exercise, but in our more sedientary modern life there’s a bigger chance that your lymphatic fluid is not flowing as freely or effectively as it could.
If you spend a lot of time driving and sitting at a desk, lymphatic massage is a wonderful way to ensure that your lymphatic system is functioning optimally. This modality is gentle and deeply relaxing. Using very light pressure, these techniques help to open your lymphatic vessels and move the fluids more efficiently. When your lymphatic system is running freely, inflammation is reduced in your body which has a cascade of positive effects.
LDM techniques soften tense tissues by immediately improving blood and oxygen circulation when applied to those areas of the body.
Any stagnancy or inflammation is promptly reduced, offering your cellular body a sense of lightness and gentle activation.
With all this mellow movement, your immune function will be strengthened as well.
Your whole body gets invigorated.
Most of this lymph stimulation is bypassed during a regular massage. The lymph vessels are wispy and they sit just below the surface of your skin, so we use just five grams of pressure or less when applying lymphatic drainage massage techniques.
The amount of pressure required to address your muscle tissues actually causes us to pass right by the lymphatic system. With extremely light pressure, we can give our full attention and care to the lymph vessels and fluids, which they don’t get all that often due to their delicate nature. You’ll feel your body thanking you for it right away!
Many people utilize lymphatic drainage massage when they’re recovering from surgery because it helps to gently accelerate the healing process. However, this modality is also extremely effective at supporting your overall well-being so it’s a wonderful choice for regular preventative care and maintaining a general sense of relaxation.
I’ll now be including LDM techniques as an option in my tailored Therapeutic and Reiki Massage offerings. I’ve played around with this in a few massage sessions already and these clients have reported an increased sense of well-being and improved range of motion even with just a few minutes of LDM techniques added into the session.
Since receiving my certification, I’ve been practicing a specific LDM protocol for relaxation on family/friends with wonderful results. The common feedback so far has been that it tends to bring people into a trance-like state during the full session, and afterward there’s an overwhelming feeling of being both at ease and energized. Many people reported a general improvement in their sense of comfort and some people even noticed their face or body seemed less “puffy” the next day.
